GENDER DISCRIMINATION: MITIGATING THE ISSUE

🖎: Philline Margaret Santos

Regardless of the environment, we can claim that gender inequality is still prevalent in the majority of communities in many regions of the world. They have failed to recognize the disparity in opportunity between men and women, and how much it has cost us time, effort, and a lack of respect that is desperately required in this period. Women have been and continue to be oppressed, mistreated, and judged unjustly. What can we do to alleviate gender inequality as we strive to become more responsible and helpful citizens of the world?

Learn to recognize. When was the last time you encountered a similar circumstance, no matter how big or small? What exactly did you do? Knowing when a rise of bias against women begins to take place is critical when it comes to reducing its prevalence, whether at school, working environments, or even at home. This requires an understanding of what is morally acceptable or unethical and what is utilized against women with less power. After you have identified the problem, you may help unfortunate girls and women in numerous situations.

Check your interactions. Have you considered your actions? Learn more about the causes of violence against women. Read publications and papers, join a club at school, and take advantage of any available learning. Male superiority and men's indoctrination are the root causes of assault against girls and women. Discover the misconceptions and facts of gender violence, as well as how our culture tolerates such injustice. Take note of your beliefs, actions, and opinions, as well as the reasons behind them. Be truthful, recognize your flaws, and take steps toward adjusting your thinking and behavior.

Speak up. Words have great power, especially when they are employed by someone with authority over others. Gendered epithets transmit the idea that girls and women are inferior. When they are viewed as disadvantaged, it makes it easier for others to behave toward them with disrespect and aggression. We still live in an age where statements are used to degrade girls and women. Change the way you speak to help improve the way you perceive the situation. Furthermore, in this generation, the existence of the media has given many their freedom of expression concerning gender discrimination, so why not use it to contribute to an improved future for all?

How about Gender Inequality in the Philippines?

The Philippines is no different. The long history of discrimination across years of ostensibly patriarchal colonialism produced varied ideas and thoughts on the supposed 'norms’—many still follow and conform to today. Reports, studies, and documentaries have been created and the prevalence of such concerns can still be seen in many sections of our country. It is not only a question of what we can do, but also of what we should do to help.

Proper education. Everything begins with the fundamentals of knowledge. Being educated allows us to see the problem and come up with a solution. Parents should take the time to educate their children, both young boys and girls, about gender inequality, what they can do to avoid it, and what they can do to make others aware of it. The more educated people there are, the more people who can contribute to reducing gender prejudice.

Promote equal opportunities. Several studies have found that many of the higher-level roles in the workplace are held by males. Giving women additional opportunities allows them to demonstrate their potential in both minor and significant professions, demonstrating to society that they are more than competent in these positions and are deserving of respect and appreciation.

Equal WORK, Equal WORTH, Equal WORLD. We, as important members of our society, should prioritize gender equality above everything else. We should strive for development, embrace change, and assist one another in becoming the finest versions of ourselves. We should be sensitive to the plight of our country's women and develop solutions to provide equal rights and opportunities for all, allowing our society to thrive and prosper—ensuring a better future for all.
